Wooden toys
Wednesday, December 24th, 2008Christmas is almost upon us and we are challenged with what to buy for our children. The market for kids toys is greatly affected by out of town toy sheds that offer near wholesale prices to consumers. The modern market is a long way from those traditional toy shops we used to find in our cities half a century ago, and the toys available are so much more diverse.
Chinese industries dominate global toy production. Many manufacturers were quickly established to provide cheap toys to the budget conscious consumer. A lot of manufacturers took their business to China because the labor is cheaper there. Mattel’s experience in 2007 illustrates the low level of quality control that led to mass recalls of children’s toys. Due to these scares the children’s toy market has seen a shift in the last few years back to more traditional toys in the last few years. Independent toy stores have escalated due to the demand for high quality wooden toys which had steadily grown over the years. Parents have been increasingly attracted to buying wooden toys because these playthings are durable, usually well-made and ecologically appropriate. Considering todays financial situation and the stresses it is causing various manufacturers, it appears that the traditional wooden toy just might turn out to be stronger in the face of economic crisis. The well made toy will provide excellent value for the money and years of enjoyment that the parents appreciate.
Christmas means gifts for children. To make this year extra special, why not skip the toy superstore and patronize a local toy shop. You may find something that will not only delight your child, but provide real value for the money.
